Have you been abused by British Airways?

Modern air travel is stressful enough without the abuse that some airlines inflict on passengers. If you are a legitimate victim of airline abuse and reasonable attempts at redress have been ignored or refused by the airline, I encourage you to submit a complaint via the CEDR to send a clear message to the airline that this behaviour will not be tolerated. The process is free if you are successful or £25 if you are unsuccessful. Please let me know about your success stories!

Legal Advice

If you need legal help, I haven't used Bott & Co Solicitors personally but they have some good advice on their website about claiming compensation from airlines and have a no-win no-fee no-risk guarantee.

British Airways Refuses to Accept Scottish Twenty Pound Note

Scottish 20 Pound Note

The Courier reports this week that British Airways refused a Scottish twenty pound note from a wheelchair bound Scottish tourist on his way back from Gibraltar.

Passenger Jim Dunbar from Forfar was a couple of kilos over his baggage allowance and tried to pay in Euros and when that was refused, offered a mix of cash including the Scottish twenty pound note. British Airways insisted that this option was also unacceptable and that Mr. Dunbar would have to swap the note at the bureau de change.

With no other option, Mr. Dunbar was forced to comply and was able to complete his journey but has vowed never to fly British Airways again.

A British Airways spokesperson apparently explained how easy it was to make a complaint either online or via a call to the BA Customer Relations Department.

Good luck with that Jim!

Toxic Fumes on British Airways

airplane cockpit

The Daily Mail reports that two British Airways pilots died within days each other, both citing in-flight toxic oil fumes as the cause of their ill-health.

Apparently it's common for pilots to don oxygen masks several times per week during flights due to poor air quality and there are no air quality monitoring systems on British Airways or other airline aircraft.

Before his death, BA Pilot Richard Westgate instructed his lawyers to sue BA for alleged health and safety breaches.

BA Pilot Karen Lysakowska also wrote to BA threatening to take legal action over ongoing air contamination incidents.

British Airways may be liable under the health regulations because they fail to monitor the on-board air quality.

There is no mention of whether passengers are also at risk.

British Airways Stingy on Economy Legroom

airline seating

A few inches in airline seat spacing can make a big difference especially for taller passengers and on longer flights.

A recent survey of 32 airlines by Business Traveller magazine and Seatplans.com shows British Airways as one of the stingiest for economy seating legroom.

Airlines providing the most economy legroom are Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines. Virgin Atlantic also provide wider seats and legroom than BA.

British Airways Loses EU Challenge

British Airways challenge in the European Union’s top court over paying compensation to passengers delayed by more than three hours has failed. This upholds a decision set in 2009.

BA will now have to pay a fixed compensation amount for passengers arriving more than three hours after their scheduled arrival time unless there are extraordinary circumstances such as bad weather.

I'd like to wish passengers attempting to claim compensation the very best of British luck!
